" ... Today the faithless have despaired of your religion. So do not fear them, but fear me. Today I have perfected your religion for you, and I have completed my blessing upon you, and I have approved Islam as your religion..." Holy Quran (5:3)
1. What does this verse mean by Today?
Based on many evidence and reports of Muslim scholars, it refers to the day of Ghadir, 18th of Dhu al-Hijja, on Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH&HP) last Hajj.
2. Why are the faithless disappointed?
The infidels thought that with the demise of the Prophet (PBUH&HP), Islam would fade away. Yet, Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH&HP) announcement about Imam Ali's (AS) leadership after him, disappointed them all.
3. why has the religion been perfected?
The commands and rules of a religion are not merely enough to guide humankind, but the presence of a leader is essential to exemplify them.Thus, religion is perfected by the presence of a leader after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)
4. why have Allah's blessings been completed?
Since the Quran considers the blessing of leading and guiding humankind the greatest blessing, through appointing Imam Ali (AS) as Muslims' leader and guide, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) have perfected Allah's blessings bestowed on humankind after his demise.
5. Why has Allah approved of Islam?
Allah's approval of His religion is gained through the simultaneous presence of a perfect law and just executive.
