625 A.D He was born in Medina to Imam Ali (AS) and Lady Fatima(AS), as their first child.
632 A.D He used to attend the sessions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) and retell what was revealed unto the Prophet (PBUH&HP) by Allah.
632A.D He witnessed the demise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP), his grandfather.
644 A.D He was appointed by Umar b. al-Khattab as a witness in the six-member council that was to choose the next caliph.
661 A.D His father, Imam Ali (AS) was martyred.
661 A.D The period of his leadership started and was chosen as the caliph by people. However, his caliphate lasted only a few months.
661 A.D While people of Iraq and other cities pledged an oath of allegiance with him, the people of Sham (Syria) refused and instead chose Muawiya b. Abi Sufyan as their caliph.
661 A.D He went to a war initiated by Muawiya, who wrongly claimed for the caliphate of Muslims.
661 A.D He signed a peace treaty based on which caliphate was handed on to Muawiya. This treaty included some provisions.
