When Yazid, the ruthless and indecent son of Muawiyah, claimed to be the caliph of Muslims unlawfully, Imam Hussain (AS) rejected his tyranny and was forced to leave Medina and Mecca. Then he was invited by the people of Kufa, and they asked his help and guidance. Imam Hussain (AS), sent his representative, Muslim, to them to be ensured of their claim. While they were enthusiastic at first, which made Muslim send a letter of confirmation to Imam Hussain (AS), they were enticed and threatened by the governor of Kufa, Ibn Ziyad, and left Muslim’s side. He was finally martyred by Kufa forces. At the same time, Imam Hussain (AS) was on his way to Kufa, not knowing people’s infidelity. Imam Hussain (AS) and his followers were near Kufa when they were opposed by one of Ibn Ziyad’s armies commanded by Al-Hurr. They stopped Imam Hussain (AS) from continuing his journey toward Kufa.
